You might want to check out www.edu-factory.org. It's a mailing-list
devoted to the ongoing reforms and transformations in the universities,
ie. changing the university into a factory/enterprise. Lots of
interesting insights and experiences from all over the world.

There is also an interesting book on this: "Utopian Pedagogy: Radical
Experiments Against Neoliberal Globalization" (2007).

David Harvie writes about the social relationships in a university quite
extensively, from an autonomist perspective - you can find some of his
articles here: http://www.le.ac.uk/ulmc/academics/dha.

Finally, Harry Cleaver has this interesting article on the political
economy of education: "On Schoolwork and the Struggle Against It". Get
it here: http://www.eco.utexas.edu/~hmcleave/OnSchoolwork200606.pdf

Best,
