Kyberia guild vs Facebook matrix
Daniel Hromada (Hromi) and Pavel Neuman

Hromi: “Give me one reason why I should register on Facebook.”
After short presentation of specific features of social media and nets there will be moderated discussion between Daniel Hromada (Hromi) who has a very skeptical attitude against Facebook and Pavel Neumann, an expert on social media, who represents a defender of current social phenomenon.
Hromi is a creator of legendary social network Kyberia.sk that has connected nonconformistly thinking people, from hackers to artists, already for several years. The author’s reserved attitude to the social nets is mainly related to the last developmental version of Kyberia - 2.3 that was not successful in its efforts to state a certain new model of the Internet democracy.
On the contrary, Hromi´s opponent, Pavel Neuman, who dedicates himself to these trends on web and whose texts are presented on the blog BuzzMag, he considers this kind of closed society pseudo-activism. “One of the significant features (of web 2.0 services) is that their utility value does not grow with the number of users hence it is not possible to compare Kyberia with Facebook“, Neuman says.

This moderated discussion will be held within the festival Multiplace. The bloc of lectures at 18:00 will be opened by Michal Cáb and the theme will be Fluxus/pd/livecoding. Palo Fabuš will follow and he will clarify us his theme in his lecture Me, We and They: Communication and Liability in Today’s society.

Significance of CC for information freedom

He will speak about the influence of the idea of open and shared sources on information freedom and about the importance of evident and synoptic licensing of works.
———————————-
Pavel Klusák – a music journalist, screen writer and translator

Creative Commons between mainstream and underground
Representatives of mainstream culture often play with Creative Commons license – mainly as a feature of independent and trendy “fresh” young attitude that uses as a marketing and image instrument.
———————————-
Adam Hazdra – he deals with innovation and product management. He is a contributor on the independent blog BuzzMag (buzzmag.cz).

Translation Free Culture
Adam Hazdra introduces noncommercial open-source translation of book Free Culture that is under way on working wiki server Root.cz. He explains more main ideas of the book and shows why it is important to deal with this book.
———————————-
14:30-16:00 Creative Commons panel
———————————-
Paul Keller is a copyright specialist working for the Dutch independent think-tank knowledgeland. He is Public Project Lead for Creative Commons Netherlands and Chairman of the Board of iCommons and international organisation promoting and advocating the use of open content and free software.

Between Creative Commons and Collective Rights management organisations
In my presentation ‘Coming to terms with collective rights management - the example of Creative Commons NL’ i will outline the relationship between Creative Commons and Collective Rights management organisations. Traditionally Creative Commons and Collective rights management organizations hava had a difficult relationship that prevents members of some Collective Rights Management Organisation in the field of music to use Creative Commons licenses that has as a consequence limited the appeal of CC licenties for professional musicians. Creative Commons Netherlands has had to deal with this situation since its launch in june 2004 and over the years we have worked with the Dutch Collecting Society Buma/Stemra to allow their members to use Creative Commons Licenses. In August 2007 Creative Commons Netherlands and Buma/stemra launched a pilot project that is currently under evaluation. The presentation will focus on the structure of and the lessons learned from this collaboration
———————————-
Petr Kadlec – works as an administrator of Czech Wikipedia. He is also a member of a civic association Wikimedia ČR.

Transformation of Wikipedia on Creative Commons license
Wikimedia pass over to the license of Creative Commons Attribution Share-alike (CC-BY-SA). The author explains why right this license has been chosen and summarizes the current state and expected further process of transformation.
———————————-
Martin Čechura – a long-time member of soundsystem AKA.IO, one of the founding members of SNA, one of the administrators of the Internet radio Radia23.cz

Creative Commons on the Internet radio Radio23.cz
Since 2004 Radio23.cz has broadcast mainly the music of the authors that are not represented by collective administrators of Copyright rights. Creative Commons license will be an appropriate instrument that will clear the copyright relationships. Radio administrators prepare for the composers and musicians an introduction of CC license within their own project of the Internet radio.
———————————-

About Creative Commons licenses:
On one side, the access to the authors´ works is easier especially thanks to the Internet, but on the other, this brings a very complicated legislation in favor of the holders of copyright rights. A person often occurs in a situation when he approaches a work under legal uncertainty. Consequently, there is a need to declare clearly conditions under which the published authorial work could be treated.

Creative Commons Licenses (CC) are based on a simple idea: the author himself makes decision under which conditions he will publish his work. Through licenses he determines these conditions. Moreover, the use of CC license has impact in the area of sharing, reusing and remixing of works in accordance with valid legislation, which also reflects in the creation of better conditions for creative activities of everybody.

Rossum's Universal Robots jako sociálně-kritická metafora. Robotické umění jako underground mediálního umění (aneb software kontra hardware). Aktuální metamorfózy robota jako média společensky kritických postojů a strategií narušujících dominantní diskurz.

Ukazovat spolupráci
Sémiotické a institucionální aspekty kolaborativního a participatorního umění

Volunteer to be a ghost in the shell!? Alienation, robotomies and virtualisation of our lives aren't just coming to a theater near you, they're all here in pre-dreamed guinea pig beta! As a culture passes the mechanical world and simulation threshold, we not only exist more inside the mediated landscape than outside it, we permit a severe mutation and reversal of body and function, such that the ubiquitous prosthetic technotopia does not quite enable communities, but shapes them for smoother corporate automation, control, expansion, atomization, extraction, and excessive waste. The domination of the machine we feared is not exactly a machine nor even a Big Brother, but our own lives pumped out as an efficient and metastasizing network reducing each of us to our utility, our parts, our data-yield, our consumer profiles. Bots, Wormholes, Kaleidescope Trojans, Virtual Bürgers and Radical Flesh Collide! Technology on the edge, junk food and junk technology on the periphery, new world disorder front and center. When the discontent gather in cyberspace, who sponsors the avatars? Whose code pulls the strings? Can you afford to be real?

Postupně z něho vznikl svébytný žánr charakterizovaný extrémně rychlým tempem, velmi precizním zvukovým inženýrstvím, komplikovanými melodickými a rytmickými frázemi a inteligentní kompozicí. V současné době breakcore v podstatě opustil kontext rekreační taneční hudby a tvoří samostatnou hudební větev na pomezí elektronické hudby, industriálu, IDM a konceptuálního umění, přičemž v něm lze vystopovat dva základní přístupy, které se často (i když velmi nerady) prolínají - akademický a undergroundový. Večer Breakcore III. reprezentuje především radikální podobu žánru - druhou ze jmenovaných - jež získala v českých luzích a hájích silné zastoupení, především skrze nejrůznější open-air free-party a festivaly na půdě autonomních center a squatů.

SHARE is an organization dedicated to supporting collaboration and knowledge exchange in new media communities. Local SHARE groups hold free, open jams and workshops in their communities. Participants bring their portable equipment, plug into our system, improvise on each others' signal and perform live audio and video. SHARE furnishes the amplification and projection. SHARE happens weekly to monthly in cities around the world. Please bring with you your audio and video instruments, computers, cables and anything else you would like to SHARE so that you can participate. More info at:
share.dj
roguewaves.net

Short interview with Elsa Vieira, the organiser:

1. What is the Share story? Who are the people behind Share? And how come you all come to Prague?! :)

Share is an open jam, not just for digirati, but for all new culture lovers. Participants bring their portable equipment, plug into our system, improvise on each others' signal and perform live audio and video. Our volunteer organizers furnish the amplification and projection. Share was founded in 2001 in NYC by Barry Manalog, geoffGDAM and Newclueless and provides an open forum, in real life, for data exchange and media performance. Patrons are encouraged to show and exchange ideas freely, giving each other feedback, catalyzing development of techniques and philosophies in new media. Share, which currently has a presence in many cities worldwide, has already been in Prague and so there is a precedent for this incarnation. Basically, Elsa Vieira, one of the NYC volunteer organizers, met up with Milos Vojtechovsky of iim and Skolska gallery (one of the original founders of SHARE.TAZ in Prague)a few months ago when she was in Prague and Milos suggested she also meet Magde Kobzova of Multiplace. It was this meeting with Magde that sowed the seeds for the current SHARE Media Cirkus event as part of the Multiplace Festival. And by the way, the "Media Cirkus" part of the name was not my idea, but was suggested by Martin Janícek, another artist I met in Prague on one of my visits, when he found out it was to be held in a tent. share.dj

2. Share is about open participation in order to bring together different creative communities. Some people can find it not that easy just to come, plug in, and immediately play together with 'strangers'. How does it work in practise?

In practice, that is the whole point; the openness to relate to a complete "stranger" as you say, in a temporary, free creative zone. No-one is forced to participate but no-one is ever turned away either; it is completely voluntary, so that if someone does not feel comfortable playing with others in this setting, then that person does have to not participate...it is really about self-regulation and self-determination while at the same time watching and listening to the others around you and trying to create a space together; whether that means participating as a "player" or just being a part of the group by sharing ideas, etc.

3. What role does the audience, the public play for you in Share?

Well, there really is no "audience" per se in the traditional sense of the word. We try to minimize as much as possible the division between "artist" and "public". There is no stage and sometimes it is really difficult to know who is doing what. The guy with the laptop and the intense gaze at his screen may be only checking his email, while the woman engaged in a lively conversation with someone else near the bar, may have her patch going on her computer and so is actually one of the people "playing". The idea is that we are all equal elements of the group; whether it is a temporary or ongoing community. Everyone plays their part when and how they wish, and pretty much determines their own role in the group...there is no-one to say hey, you do/are this and you are not/do not do this...you decide for yourself who you are and what you do - I would hope people would always approach this with some degree of respect for the others around.

David Možný: Rahova
20. April – 06. May 2011, Project SPACE, SK_Bratislava
David Možný (CZ)
Project SPACE
opening/exhibition

A project by Czech artist David Možný is based on his research in the Rahova housing estate in Bucharest, which is the epitome of an urban utopia and its failure, connected with the socialist past of Central and Eastern European countries. By pointing at Baudrillard’s definition of simulacra, Možný uses spatial installations and video projections to capture the mistakes of mass production, simulations, imitations of classical architectural elements and their bizarre resonance within the context of prefabricated architecture of the 1970’s. By means of digital image decomposition, multiplication and combinations of individual parts, Možný transforms the hard reality of a socialist housing estate and offers the viewer a dreamy, but slightly apocalyptic, vision of – maybe the near future.

Hockey is a popular sport, which is why it is closely linked to pop culture. People wanted to bring this popular sport into their homes, so they could feel they are directly taking part. The exhibition will offer various hockey game consoles from different periods, all in one place. You will of course be able to try all of them – after all, HOCKEY, NOW THAT’S A GAME!

Re-Paik
02. – 04. May 2011, Gallery Enter, SK_Bratislava
David Strang (UK) (workshop facilitator), Vincent van Uffelen (UK) (workshop facilitator)
workshop

David Strang and Vincent van Uffelen will lead a workshop starting from the installation by Nam June Paik, Random Access (1963). This time however, the network of strips of magnetic tape will not be randomly played simply based on the viewer’s decision – the installation will be infiltrated by completely new circumstances and technologies. Daily from 11am to 5pm. The outcome of the workshop will be presented by participants on Thursday night in Enter. Register at projects@multiplace.sk.

"«Random Access Music»
Since the early 1950s, avant-garde composers have been using magnetic tape to obtain a spectrum of sounds far exceeding the canon of conventional instruments. Obviously, musical notation was worthless in such cases, and Cage developed randomly determined, graphical scores allowing various noises to be assembled into complex tape compositions. In this tape installation, Paik went one step further: the visitor can use the sound head, which has been detached from the tape recorder, to interactively run through the tapes glued to the wall, and constantly vary the sound sequence according to location and speed. This random access to the musical raw material enabled visitors to produce compositions of their own."

Multiplace Expo
02. 19h – 07. May 2011, Gallery Enter, SK_Bratislava
David Strang (UK), Vincent van Uffelen (UK), Tač.ka (BIH), Jan Nálepa (CZ), Jiří Suchánek (CZ), Václav Peloušek (CZ), Ocusonic (IE), Víctor Mazón (ES/DE)
opening/exhibition

The Multiplace festival was this year able to secure Gallery Enter with its new, informal and unseen space in the centre of Bratislava. At MULTIPLACE EXPO, you will find a selection of fresh media installations, a workshop, and during two festival evenings, the gallery’s historic building will host live performances by several artists. EXPO will present the various forms of the REMAKE concept – most works are inspired by the history of media art, while some were created specifically for the Multiplace festival. You certainly shouldn’t miss projections onto 3D objects by Irish artist Ocusonic, which process recordings by an experimental TV studio from the 1980’s, Václav Peloušek’s drawing machine, which will react to data being transmitted on the Multiplace website, and the software by Jan Nálepa, which generates sounds from scores by the Slovak artist Milan Adamčiak.

Artists: David Strang & Vincent van Uffelen (UK) / RE-PAIK / Workshop in progress, Tač.ka (BIH) / THIS IS NOT A REMAKE OF BOSNIAN-HERZEGOVINIAN NEW MEDIA ART, Jan Nálepa (CZ) / Partitura, Jiří Suchánek (CZ) / Medusa, Václav Peloušek (CZ) / Drawing machine – Stroj 02, Ocusonic (IR) / Chasing Waves Installation, Victor Mazon (ES/DE) and workshop participants / Voltage Control (from 5.5.)

EXPO will also present performances by Ocusonic (Chasing Waves Performance) and the Czech duo of Ondřej Merta – Václav Peloušek, who combine analogue and digital videosynthesis as part of the Hurikán BM516 project, and concert by Jiří Suchánek, with his Meduse sensory instrument.

Opening hours
Tuesday to Saturday / 3 - 6 pm

Blau Peru
02. May 2011 20h, Kavárna Potrvá, CZ_Prague
Alexandra Moralesová (CZ), Georgij Bagdasarov (AM/CZ)
performance

‚Photography is truth. Cinema is truth twenty-four times per second.’ J-L. Godard, 1970.
Blau Peru is an attempt to ‚develop a film picture‘, to wake up a potential story, and to initiate research. We work with found footage material. To invoke the moving picture, an 8mm film viewer is used. To spread the picture on screen, there is a video transfer and due to that kind of digital remediation the material comes to transubstantiation and turns into a ‚spectre‘. Those spectres are then forced to dance with a prepared gramophone and so transfigure one of thousands of possible stories made possible by found footage material.

Multiplace Opening
02. May 2011 20h, The Brno House of Arts, CZ_Brno
Derek Holzer (US/DE), Robin Fox (AU), Tomáš Hrůza (CZ), Michal Cab (CZ), Peter Gonda (gnd, SK)
The Brno House of Arts
concert

The laser show by Robin Fox is a truly “synthetic experience for the 21st century”, based on the visualisation of sound: the audience is immersed in electronically produced sound waves, perfectly synchronised with the movement of laser beams. Derek Holzer’s project Tonewheels is inspired by pioneering pieces of electronic music from the 20th century (ANS Synthesizer, Variophone, the Oramic system), Peter Gonda (gnd) with Michal Cáb (Cabowitz) will present their own version of literary “cut-up” techniques and a reinterpretation of the cult work Dreamachine by Brion Gysin from the 1960’s. A local contribution will come in the form of Datapatch ver 1.11 by multimedia artist Tomáš Hrůza, inspired by principles in the work of the Japanese artist Ryoji Ikeda.

Collaboration between performance artist Johnny Fox (UK) and visual artist Zuzana Godálová (SK) will create a dialogue between organic and digital entities. Using audio and visual performance to drive a narrative of a simple human experience, it will be a re-worked performance which took place in Sheffield (UK) 2009.

“We are put in a position where at least 10 doors are open, choices are given to be made within our available technology which no longer needs to just function for human purposes but ‘will function on its own’, as a life form in itself reacting to us through simple hybrid systems of integration.”

Laser beams, hacked radios, transformed gaming console controls: the creative utilisation of technologies can act to critically analyse the information era, by utilising new media in an unusual way, as well as by improvising surprising audiovisual combinations directly in front of the audience. Robin Fox’s laser show is a real “21st century synaesthetic experience”, based on the visualisation of sound: the audience is immersed in electronically produced sound waves perfectly combined with the movement of laser beams. Composer and vocalist Alex Nowitz uses adapted wireless Wii controllers to record, play back and transform his voice in real time. His performance Homo Ludens for a four channel sound system adds a new dimension to experimental voice performance. And finally, Spanish artist, activist and DIY-engineer Victor Mazon with an audiovisual performance made for this occasion.

Augmented Mediation Device
05. May 2011, Nantes Museum of Fine Art, FR_Nantes
PiNG
opening/exhibition

DMA engages a space for the re-appropriation of digital technologies by museums and galleries. Developed by Thomas Bernardi (artist, coder) with the support of PiNG, DMA intends to interrogate the concept of the device itself, experimenting and stimulating a space for research on digital artefacts in a museum environment. Visitors are asked to navigate the exhibition with an « augmented glance » through a phone camera and a documented database which provide, in real-time, keys of comprehension to the artworks presented around them.

DMA will be presented and first tested on Thursday 5th of May during the current exhibition Le Théâtre des Passions. Visitors will be invited to experiment with DMA on site from 5th to 22nd of May.
DMA is a free device developed under eGPL licences. The project is supported by PiNG, the new media resource centre based in Nantes, a partner of the REMAKE project.

Venue: Cluj, Piata Unirii 9, in fata Ceainariei Demmers

A project of AltArt Foundation

The War of the Worlds is a sound projection of the street noises of Cluj into Bratislava and of the street noises of Bratislava in Cluj. There are two black boxes - one in each city capturing and transferring the soundscape in which they are embedded into the other. The boxes function both as your senses in the other world and your teleportation device, making your presence felt one thousand kilometres away, in a different world. Thus, in its first reading, the system invites you to meditate on the meaning of being in a place: are you in a place if you sense it and others sense you in it? Of course not. For example, when you hear a car passing by, you may not know which city the car originated in...

The system constructs a hybrid and volatile sound space at each end around the boxes - as volatile and limited in boundaries or warranty as the system that generates it is. And this is the very point where you can be hijacked and teleported into a third world - an augmentation of the sound-conglomerate city you already believe you can trust as stable - just as Orson Welles did it in 1938 with his War of the Worlds. And that in this case you were told when the performance starts may just prove the instability of the system all the more… what if the intervention already started at 5 and the mix of normalities you perceive is already grossly pampered with? It is a challenge. And there's only one way to find out: by yourself.

L.I.S. - Lisbon Indeterminate Soundscape
06. May 2011 18.30h, Gallery Enter, SK_Bratislava
Blu (BR), Murmur (SK)
concert

A portrait, an improvised collage with ‘sound images’ from the typical soundscape of Lisbon and a collection of solo acts and musical group projects from this city, painted over with new layers of fresh material (objects, voice, flute and synthetic sounds) by Brazilian musician Blue, in collaboration with Murmur (SK).

Since 2007, Blu has been experimenting with new possibilities of contemporary improvisation as the duo Kalu, Koll Witz, using objects, different instruments that he plays in extended techniques and lo-fi electronic devices. Recently, he has started using a combination of field recordings, sound synthesis and musical instruments, sometimes combined with video. In this project, Blu collaborates with a Slovak musician named Murmur; who is, however, a well-known character from various local experimental projects (Etnoise Orchestra, Uran Uran, Voice Over Noise, Musica falsa et ficta...).

concert, performance

Ben Frost’s current setup requires not only a guitar and electronic equipment but also a ton of other equipment. Apart from a powerful aesthetic experience, the audience can also expect a physical one, triggered by sub-bass vibrations from speakers and feedback. Frost’s surprising musical textures choose the best from minimalism, ambient, post-punk, black-metal and noise influences: his appearance was certainly the ‘most corporeal performance’ at the prestigious Sónar festival in Barcelona. Before that, BIOS audiovisual project from Košice will introduce a fresh programme ‘remaking’ historical experimental films. The concert will be followed by a party with A4 + Stanica resident DJs.

BIOS is an audiovisual project formed in March 2010. The duo are former students of the Faculty of Arts TU (Kosice, Slovakia) Studio of Printmaking and experimental media: Boris Sirka (audio) and Jozef Tušan (visual). Conceptually, the BIOS tends to black metal, industrial, drone and dark ambient follows their visual, covers, corpsepaintings, horror, gothic and exorcism.

Hallogenerator is a multimedial electroperformance, in the spirit of old evergreens dressed in sound-era of 8-bit computers inspired by Alexej Shulgin's 386DX. Displaying contrast between the digital world of computers and biomorphic world of humans where both parties failing and winning at the same time in dark atmosphere of the unpredictable context. It is a utopian story of an old and unfortunate robot fallen in love with suspicious human girl, do not believe in the ability of machines. Specially prepared software generating audio and video in real time is running exclusively on open source software.
