Freedom of expression for everyone and liberation from content dictated by media magnates however brings about new, unpredicted factors – and it’s artists who call for a general sobering up. Palo Fabuš is the culture publicist, critic and theorist. Not a journalist. His former interest in new media has progressively evolved into wide study of contemporary culture applying a variety of approaches such as sociology, media studies, art theory and philosophy. The first part of the evening will introduce musicians Sina and Daniel Salontay from the project Longital, also known as Dlhe Diely, who will be recorded in real-time and visually transformed via motion tracking by artist Tomas Vanek. In the second part, the live partition supported by other musicians (Jakub Zitko, Tomas Dvorak) will bring the interpretation of Longital into live audio-visual form. The inner logic of live partition can be metaphorically compared to the sun system. Sun is the sound object and particular planets are effect objects, that together by their combinations, sizes and distances from Sun create audio-algorithmic situations and let the sound develop further. Filling up the holes 14. April 2007 9h, Tranzit workshops, SK_Bratislava open participation, Laco Teren (SK) (concept) tranzit.sk Selected artists will be invited to propose and realise the filling up of holes in the fence of the Studena 12 area. Each filled hole will be tagged with the authorship and the text „in the frame of MULTIPLACE 2007“. The project includes a practical aspect - the need for better security at the space, and metaphorically communicates the needs of a local cultural environment. On the spot we expect massive discussions on an informal basis. Finis Terrae 13. April 18h 03. It is a place where the earth ends and doubt begins. For the author of the exhibition, in a general sense it gives a name to the provisional position in which she tries to put the viewer via her video-installations. It deals with uncertainty in the field of identification (visual, acoustic..) perception. The video works of Nora Ruzickova produced in 2002 – 2005 thematise bodily experience as the basic source of our linguistic understanding of the world, as immediate foundation for handling other experiences, and as the primary and richest source of metaphor. April 2007 , SPACE Gallery, SK_Bratislava Jakub Pišek (SK), Mikuláš Podprocký (SK), Ivana Madariová (SK) (curator) SPACE projects | residency lab | store opening/exhibition Exhibition Full Service Video examines the path film can take, not only its composition, but also its accessibility and technical setup. Jakub Pisek will present an interactive video installation that is activated by sound. It also asks the question – to speak or not to speak while watching a movie? The work of Mikulas Podprocky shifts more to a critique of content of mainstream film production. In his interactive animation he gives each viewer a choice – action, romantic/erotic film or drama – then has the Movie Generator create the film for the individual viewer out of typical film scenes. The originality and value of such a film corresponds to a number of today’s blockbusters, while production time and budget are incomparably more effective. Harakiri 14. The modus operandi of a great part of 20th century art was characterized by recontextualisation of the “old“ into the “new“ by an increasingly active consumer. Following in the footsteps of the recontextualisation discourse of futurism, dadaism or musique concrete is music sampling as seen in contemporary music, be it hip hop, electronic music or pop. The grounds for the theoretical framework is the polemics of Theodor W. Adorno and Walter Benjamin on production and reception of media messages. Adorno´s assertion about the implicit passivity of recipients contrasts with the later theoretical paradigms of French neomarxism, semiotics and cultural studies (Michel de Certeau, Roland Barthes, Julia Kristeva, Umberto Eco, Stuart Hall; Chris Cutler and plundrophonics, Nicolas Bourriaud and postproduction), which emphasize the activity of the consumer of symbolic messages. Sampling, as an example of active “consumption“ has blurred the boundaries between consumption and production, paving the way for a so called “prosumer“. Lucia Udvardyova graduated from Faculty of Humanities of the Charles University in 2006. She interested in elektronic music, street art, DIY media and subcultures. April 2007 , online open participation AltArt Foundation Synchroni-cities is a simultaneous urban exploration quest playing with the idea of creating "multiplaces" (sets of synonymous places that have the same definition: the same trail leads to them). The game takes place in the real world (in different cities of different countries) and the internet. The concept: "A trail can lead to many places. Places a given trail leads to define a multiplace." Gamers have to subscribe to the game website to be able to play. This is how the game unfolds: The player receives a trail to complete. Each trail is represented by a "flag", and before starting his journey, the player has to create the flag of the trail. The player has to go out in the real world and complete the trail. The player is required to document his trail by uploading texts and images telling the story of his journey. The final photographs belonging to a trail completed by different players form sets. Each set of places defines a multiplace. Players are also encouraged to submit new trails and rate other's completed trails. The duration of the game is 9 days. The game winners will be awarded prizes consisting of objects from other cities participating in the game (having a local specific character). www.altart.org/synchroni-cities T.O.U.C.H. 14. 22. The application plays back the writing along a timeline just like a movie; the main feature is that it reflects the delay time between each keystroke into various visual representations of the output text. For this version, the more time the writer spends before typing a word, the bigger the font size become. Using this visual translation, the viewer can visually understand the process of each person’s writing experience. All the text inputs are licenced under a Creative Commons licence, and it is used for a text mash-up function that is included in the alpha release of the software (with GPL) on the project website. This is aimed at developing not only the individual piece as an end product, but also to propose a new aesthetics and custom which pays more attention to the process of production than the end result. TypeTrace Kinetic Keyboard (T2K2) is a hardware keyboard that synchronizes with the TypeTrace application. Each T2K2 key is respectively linked with a solenoid, allowing each key to function physically, as the player piano, in accordance with the file running on the application.
